WOODFEST COUNTRY SHOW
Conservation Information - Location Outside Trade Stand
We are the Woodland Trust - the UK's largest woodland conservation charity.
We've grown to more than 500,000 members and supporters and more than 1,000 sites, covering over 26,000 hectares, all over the UK. We protect and campaign on behalf of this country’s woods, plant trees, and restore ancient woodland for the benefit of wildlife and people.
We want to see a UK rich in woods and trees, enjoyed and valued by everyone. But we can't achieve our vision alone. We need your help too.
Our woodland faces threats from climate change, increasing numbers of pests and diseases, pollution, overgrazing, invasive non-native species, and intensification of land use. Environmental change is happening at an unprecedented rate.
Wildlife-rich areas have been lost and fragmented, many species are declining, ecosystems are damaged and degraded. Our landscapes can't cope with these pressures. They are less able to provide the things we take for granted - clean air and water, flood control and food production.
Campaigning to save a local wood
Areas rich in wildlife are the building blocks from which we can create landscapes that are more resilient in the face of change. Protecting our most valuable habitats is the first step to recovery.
Ancient woods and trees are some of our most valuable natural assets. Ancient woods are irreplaceable, home to many vulnerable and threatened species. Ancient trees are whole habitats in their own right, supporting a wide variety of wildlife. We believe there should be no further loss of ancient woodland.
We work to protect our most valuable woods and trees from direct loss, for example from clearance for development. We also advocate buffering our most valuable woods from the impacts of neighbouring land-use, through creation of new wildlife areas around them.
